mooring fees not refunded with meals

Managed to slip into the last stern on mooring spot available close to the pub. The two lads looking after the mooring were very helpful. I was disappointed that the mooring fee of £10 was not refunded against meals and drinks. Four of us spent just short of £100 there that night on meals and drinks. Staff in the pub were very good and entertaining at times

Mooring Description :
Not the best spot to have stern on mooring as the river gets narrow. Moorings across the river closed now. Didn't know i could moor in the boatyard round the back.
Food Description :
Food was excelent and portions large. The menu had a good variety

SUPERB !!!!!

first time that we've been here for a few years ,and must say the pub is a breath of fresh air !everything from service-food-drink- cleaniness , excellent

Mooring Description :
moorings were allowed for cruisers , but guess only for this time of year as not many dayboats about , moorings opposite at woodbastwick mooring , but ok if you have a dinghy to row accross , which we did , also if on hire boat you can moor at ferry marina side of the ferry inn for free and just walk along into the pub
Food Description :
5 of us eat here , all 5 meals were excellent ,3 of us had the carvery , again excellent and well worth the money,1 had the cottage pie bit tight on the mince in the pie , but over all again good, and my son had the kids pizza ,which was huge !!!!! again well worth it , service was excellent , defernately going again , well done the ferry inn !

The Ferry Inn at Horning was one that ‘she who must be obeyed’ had wanted to visit for a while. Saturday lunch was in full swing so I expected some delay in either ordering at the bar or the delivery of the food. However this is a very slick operation right from the first encounter with the chap to collect the mooring fee (£15 but with £5 off the price of food ordered) and then the ordering of the food, remembered to take the table number this time and left the better half to fend of any extended families that might take a shine to my ‘des res’ on the water front. Food was very good and at the usual price for the Broads area, so 33% higher than normal. I usually gauge the price of food on a fried breakfast, usually available everywhere, costing around £3.50 – £4.50 dependant upon composition. I have found around the Broads that this can be upwards of £7.00 for 1 egg, 1 sausage, some tinned beans and a piece of bacon with a slice of toast. The best breakfast I have come across is that little café at Ludham Bridge, indeed I have been known to take a detour there for a breakfast (and that is from the entrance to Oulton Broad). I digress, as we were staying the night I should think it can get a little ……… feisty in the height of the season, but it was the right volume for me (boring old git that I am). What did surprise me is the facility behind closing on the Sunday (winter hours the lady behind the counter said) so the showers were not available on that day neither was the swimming pool.

Filling Carvery

We all had the carvery which was the only option available. Prices were £6.99 for an adult-sized portion and £4.99 for a child-sized portion.

Mooring Description :
We drove past initially to find there were no spaces available, however, when we turned back up the river, we were able to nab a space. It is £10 overnight which is redeemable on food and £5 during the day.
Food Description :
There were a choice of meats including Turkey, Beef, Pork and Chicken. There were numerous amounts of vegetables and potatoes such as carrots, peas, new and roast potatoes, parsnips, and even some small cocktail sausages. We struggled to finish our food as we had piled our plates as high as we could. On the downside, the gravy was a bit lumpy but overall, it was a fantastic, and filling meal.

Not great.

We last visited two years ago, and were dissapointed when we visited this September. No atmosphere, food was chain-pub style and nothing special.

Mooring Description :
Plenty, with double mooring as required. Cost is £5 and still applies if you double moor.
Food Description :
Plain, uninspired and uninspiring. Very average.

New decor will take some getting used to, but everything else fine

Called a couple of times in Dec/Jan. Cheery greetings and discussion of the revamp. Beer and food well up to standard.

Mooring Description :
Get there early at busy times - and there is a charge most of the year. Moorings have been generally well-maintained for some years.
Food Description :
Good VFM, not pretentious, good portions.

Better

Pub refurbished in December 2007. I have not been happy in the past due to poor/surly service and beer quality. However improvemnts on both counts. Service was efficient and friendly. Beer quality although not outstanding was very acceptable. Drink prices reasonable for the area.

Mooring Description :
Mooring outside. You will be charged!

New menu with 2 for a tenner offer on many dishes Monday to Friday. Good value. Food was well presented and very acceptable.

evening meal

big pub which gets busy with holiday makers aswell as locals family friendly with lots for kids to do the only draw back with the pub is it could do with being better lit as its dark but after saying that still one of my favourite pubs on the broads.

Mooring Description :
plenty of safe moorings
Food Description :
I tried the turkey and ham pie a nice pie well cooked which was packed with meat nice to see the carvery back as it had been withdrawn for the start of the season.

Poor Service

Sampled the Wherry which had 'just gone off' and a new cask had been put on. It had not been allowed to settle and was like pea soup (or should it be pee). Undrinkable. The barmaid was bored, surly and miserable. Clearly didn't want to be there and couldn't be bothered. Service and customer care (or lack of)were appalling. Apperently this pub along with the Malsters and Bridge at Acle are all part of the same chain. Speaks volumes. I will certainly never use the pub again based on my experience there. Go to the New Inn!!

Lovely Inn

A pub full of atmosphere, the staff are here are great. The "chef" on the carvery has a wicked sense of humour! Ask him for a couple of peas:-) Ale is reasonable priced and good quality Live music in the summer is good, they seem to have a knack of picking great acts. Kids play area is ok

Mooring Description :
Our boat is moored in a yard next door, so we tend to walk over. But the moorings seem reasonably priced compared to some. Double mooring is allowed and there is quite a bit of space. Tends to begin filling up around 4pm for overnight mooring
Food Description :
Food now always tends to be of the carvery type, of which the quality is brilliant and the portions large and the price is very very reasonable

Friendly and reliable

Changed a bit under the present incumbent but still a good atmosphere, cheery service, better choice of beer (Wherry and Revenge!), and good honest food at fair prices.

Mooring Description :
Excellent moorings (£5 overnight, unfortunately), or moor opposite at Woodbastwick Staithe and row across.
Food Description :
Choice varies day to day, carvery only at weekends, all very good VFM.
