A great boozer. The pub is now owned by The Green Jack Brewing Company, a small independant real ale brewer. The other Green Jack pub is The Triangle at Lowestoft. It would appear that Green Jack have installed new tenants in the Locks Inn (I visited 18th March 2005) who are to run the pub in the same way as last year when Green Jack first took over. The selection of real ales is good, although only limited to Green Jack beers, however there is normally four on tap and all worth testing. The Orange Wheat beer is particularly good and my favourite. The pub now has regular live music. I didn't taste the food on this visit, but the food that was being served looked very appetising, and upto the same standard as last year, which was very good and reasonably priced. All round a first class real ale pub. PUB LISTED IN THE 2008 GOOD BEER GUIDE

Very quaint lil pub x

We moored right in front of pub for the nite. Beautiful sitting outside by the river while we had dinner! Very homey surroundings, lots of wood, quite large, liked the atmosphere of the place! Later at nite was Morris dancing outside, that was quite fun to watch! Really enjoyed this dog friendly pub! Oh PS, cash only, no cards so don't forget to bring money!

Still one of my favourite pubs on the Broads. Beautiful setting and a superb range of Green jack Ales.

Mooring Description :
Several BA 24 hour moorings plus more alongside the field on the opposite side of the river (pub reached via a footbridge). Take care with the field moorings as the ground is quite uneven and the river is shallow in places.
Food Description :
The menu doesn't seem to have changed at all over the last few years, but they are limited in what they can actually cook there. Small menu but usually of a reasonable standard and well priced.

Wonderful Place!

Spent a very nice afternoon and evening here on 20th May 2007. This really is a charming little place in an idyllic location. It's worth the trip just for the beautiful river journey from Beccles alone, let alone the Green Jack Brewery beers on offer! They ususally have live music on a Sunday afternoon and also on some weekend evenings. The main bar is still lit by candles during the evening which just adds to the character of this place. I am a big fan of the Green Jack beers - Grasshopper being my favourite at around 5%, they also do a very nice Orange Wheat Beer, a less strong Canary Ale (OK) plus seasonal beers. This time it was Mahseers IPA which was very good!

Mooring Description :
Mooring space for about 8 cruisers available at the pub but plenty also available on the riverbank on the opposite side of the river - just walk over the footbridge to get to the pub.
Food Description :
We visited on a Sunday and had a meal at lunchtime as they don't not serve food on Sunday evenings. Limited menu but very well priced with a reasonable vegetarian selection - eveything comes with either chips or salad & bread though. We opted for a cheddar ploughmans and the vegetarian goulash both of which were good and under £7 each.

A Bumpy Ride

We visited The Locks this week for probably the 1st time in 20 years. It has certainly been extended but the bar still holds its own charm. Went by car so the drive up the track was a very bumpy one. He had Canary Bitter which he said was OK. I had Western Revival Cider which was definately not to my taste, its more like a real scrumpy, but each to their own.

Charming Riverside Pub

A step back in time at this lovely pub right at the end of navigation. Friendly service & wonderful ambience with a cracking beer garden. Shame I couldn't eat here as it was Sunday night & it's their night off for food. Menu looks promising for a future visit. Just one slight niggle.........gets my award for the most expensive pint of lager on the Broads (so far)

Mooring Description :
Good moorings in the dyke virtually outside the pub with further available in the main channel.

Didn't eat here but menu looks interesting

Superb!!!!

This is a truely magical public house with an oldy worldy feel to it. There was a folk group playing in the beer garden children playing dogs barking and many people relaxing with a d rink or to on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. The only down side for us was that we planned to have our evening meal here that night, but where told that on Sundays they dont serve meals after 2.30pm. We just managed to order something at around 2.25pm!!! We didnt let this spoil our visit though and would recommend this place to evrybody who visits the broads and wants to see what and feel what it must have been like many years ago. This place is like going back in time.... WONDERFUL!! For the youngsters at heart there is lots of room for the kids to play outside or in with pool and darts the order of the day indoors and one or two games of footy or frisbie throwing going on outdoors.

Mooring Description :
As for the moorings Well!!! I had a weee problem. I went into the cul-de-sac nose first and thought I would spin her round to moor up, to make it easier the day after when leaving, so I turned to my port and moved the bow towards the trees, and then put her in reverse and turned to my port again, and put her in reverse, and then forwards and port again!!! By this time I was across the river at right angles to the bank and moving sideways closer and closer to the end of the navigation area and try as I might I could not get her to turn. So I went stern on and with some help from another boater, pulled her round by hand. I did something wrong, but still dont know what!!! But I must admit I was getting a little worried when I started to run out of water and all I was doing was moving sideways!!! There is mooring directly outside the pub for around 6 or 7 boats and more moorings on the main river a 3 minute walk over the footbridge
Food Description :
I had the steak and ale pie with chips which was tasty and pelntiful whilst the lads both had burger and chips and the misses settled into a jacket potato with prawns. All plates where cleaned, which is always a good sign and it set us off for the day. The meals are very reasonable priced with the 4 of us eating for around £20.

Unbeatable. It doesn't get better than this.

Owned by Lowestoft Microbrewery Green Jack, and after a few years of being run down and then closed I am glad to say this establishment is right back at the top. Still no mains services so limited power by generator and most light is supplied by candles. small main bar with massive wood burner which was roaring away. Modern extension houses pool room and lounge. Visited on Wednesday lunch time and sampled the Grasshopper - stunning beer, every bit as good as Nelsons Revenge and very well kept. So good I could not bring myself to try the others which range from 3.6% session beer to "Gone Fishing" @ 5.5%. Draught lager and Cider also available. Regular live music of different styles, Thursday it turned out was folk night so we left with a promise to return the next day. Folk night was a real treasure, superb atmosphere, cracking beer, and they let the dog in (in fact there is a resident black labrador which is very friendly) *** check opening hours Nov - Easter, i think it will be closed on certain days. ***

Unbeatable

Having had holidays on the Broads for almost 20 years, I thought I knew all the best places. This pub was a revelation and obviously one of the best kept secrets! Totally atomspheric and like stepping back into another world - even the prices didn't reflect 2005. Check in advance for live music nights.

Mooring Description :
Main moorings - probably about 6 or 8 boats in a cut off the main river. A similar length of moorings on the adjacent main river.

No food on Sundays or Mondays. We didn't know this so we had Twiglets for supper!
