Directions - Boat : Besides the Staithe at Coltishall. Coltishall is upstream from Wroxham. A beautiful and idyllic river trip through some of the best Norfolk countryside.
Directions - Car : From Norwich - take the North Walsham exit off of the ring road - B1150. Follow this road for about 7 miles, then you will come into Horstead. On crossing the small hump back bridge, you will now be enterting Coltishall. Take the very first right after the bridge, alongside the Petrol Station, heading towards Wroxham. After 300 yards you will pass the Post Office on your right, then just past this is a big car park besides the River Bure. The Rising Sun is at the far end of this car park overlooking the river, with Coltishall Common to your left. NR12 7EA

Pleasant Evening

The pub was quite quiet when we called and staff were friendly and helpful

Mooring Description :
Plenty side on close by
Food Description :
Three of our party had fish and chip which were large portions and very well cooked. I had Hunters chicken which was also very good. Prices were reasonable and on a par with other establishments on the northern broads

Eater 2012 open again

We popped in there at nearly three o'clock yesterday, we had to order sharpish as the kitchen closed at three but we were informed very pleasantly. We only ordered sandwiches one baguette two toasties and one ham and mustard and the two prequisite bowls of chips. The service was second to none by very happy young girls and the food was excellent and well presented. Verdict if they can keep it up through the height of the summer all the other riverside pubs will have to look to their laurels. The décor is very relaxing and fresh the outside areas including the car park have been given a much needed makeover To sum up a traditional old pub given a 21st century makeover but sympathetically done.Good food good service good pub again.

Drinks Very Expensive

Cannot believe this pub is charging £4 a bottle for Magners Pear Cider........ Visited 22.04.2010, No atmosphere and got the impression they where only interested in food and not drink. Pool table gone also.

It has been 3 years since my last visit but we called in for lunch on Wednesday. I presume that there has been a change in management since 2006 and the menu (and prices) have changed quite dramatically! 2 pints of Hobgoblin (very nice) and a small lemonade came to £7.95 which I thought was a bit steep!

Mooring Description :
Moorings outside the pub plus plenty along the common.
Food Description :
The vegetarian options were limited and unimaginative - the usual suspects of mushroom stroganoff, curry and a pasta dish, plus jacket spuds with either cheese or beans or a cheese & tomato sandwich in the snacks. The two meat eaters in the party opted for a bacon, lettuce & tomato sandwich (very full) and a hot chili jacket (very hot & looked homemade) which both went down very well. Just disappointed with the choice for me, so I had a bowl of chips!

The Best meal out we ate this Easter!!!

Must be one of the best veiws on the Broads, Beer was super tried Wherry and John Smiths

Mooring Description :
Good moorings all the way along the green, great for the kids to stretch thier legs, handy little shop / post office etc a short walk away, limited BA electric hook up available.
Food Description :
We came down for Easter and ate at 12 diffrent restaurants / pubs this one was by far the best and also one of the more expensive but was well worth it, Mrs C had the Calves liver and smoked bacon with mashed potato and a delicious onion gravy, £9.95 the liver melted in your mouth and the REAL mash was buttery and smooth, the onion gravy was rich and extremely tasty, 10 out of 10, I had the mixed grill, £14.95 but it was just huge, pork chop, lamb chop, rump steak, gammon, smoked bacon and calves liver, onion rings, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and a separate portion of real chips not the reconstituted lumps that are prevelent around the broads pubs. lots of cheaper and dearer options on the menu , a great place to go if your sick of the usual pub fare.

Lost the plot.

Gone downhill in the eight months since last we visited. One staff member needs sorted out. Insolent, ignorant and utterly off-putting. The rest did their jobs. Very, very disappointed.

Mooring Description :
Got the absolute prime mooring outside on two seperate nights. Excellent.
Food Description :
Nothing special about it anymore apart from perfectly cooked steaks. If i want motorway food i'll go to a service station, not a beautiful pub in a prime location and pay through the nose. The Deuchar's was still on, but is not as it should be.

Get more toilets!

A good, bt not a great pint of Deuchar's IPA is a tremendous thing and the Rising Sun has that, plus Wherry.

Mooring Description :
Plenty on the green.....goor, safe and quiet, except for Cockney lager-louts from Magic Gem II!
Food Description :
Excellent food, if a tad pricey, but well worth it if you like something well cooked and in some cases different....excellent squid and monkfish in a balsamic sauce with rocket and pine kernel salad.

Used to be a great pub

In 2004 we found the place unfriendly and lacking in anything positive.
