Nice pub

Nice pub and restaurant. Always a nice welcome. Good selection of beers, nice outdoor seating . Dog friendly, best to book at weekends.

Superb Frydays

Although the address of the pub is South Walsham it is much better and easier to walk to it from Ranworth Staithe. It’s a very pleasant walk along beautiful country lanes. A warm welcome as ever from Kim and Giles. The Friday fish just gets bigger, our haddock must have been a foot long (and that’s no fisherman’s tale). Beautiful moist white fish in a crispy batter with lovely home made chips. Yummy. The Woodforde’s Wherry was on good form but also a great pleasure to see Giles supporting the smaller Norfolk brewers in the shape of Wolf with their excellent Christmas brew. The Ship is a true free house (a rarity in this area) and doesn’t have to supply beers from a ‘list’. Apparently Humpty Dumpty and the excellent Tipples of Acle have appeared recently. This is a quality pub based on several visits over the last couple of years.

Mooring Description :
Moor at Ranworth - much better access than from South Walsham.
Food Description :
Excellent home cooked grub - see above. The Barnsley Chop has now gone upmarket and is described as a Lamb Steak :-)

dont bother

1 1/4 mile treck across fields from the moorings, I suspose it would be okay if you didn't have kids with you - not kid friendly at all!!!!

Mooring Description :
mooring space adequate but be prepared for a walk across fields etc to get to the village.
Food Description :
Didn't both eating here due to unfriendly atmosphere!!!

Worth the walk

Lovely Village local, Landlord thought it was very funny when I virtually crawled into the pub on my knees because we had missed the shortcut across the field!!

Mooring Description :
No mooring in the broad itself, but a number on the staith, side on.
Food Description :
We both had Ham & Cheese toasties which although were very good, thought a bit over-priced at £4.50 each. (Had the same at Sutton Staith Hotel for £2,45.)

A Must

This is an excellent pub. It takes about 30 minutes walk (past the Malsters)but is well worth it. The walk itself is through beautiful countryside, what better way to work up an appetite and a thirst! We walked there and back twice in one day, although they will give you a lift back to the staithe. Giles and Kim run a quality pub. The beer was on top form (Wherry tried). The Friday fish and chips are superb, fresh succulent fish in a light crispy batter and homemade chips. This pub is everything a good pub should be. Beautiful beer garden at the rear. really friendly service. Don't bother with the 'big chain' pubs, take that little extra effort and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Mooring Description :
Moor at either Ranworth or South Walsham. About the same distance from each, although South Walsham involves crossiong a field.
Food Description :
Excellent home made food, try the Friday fish and chips!!
