Now back on the 'Must Visit List'

The Maltsters - they have recently spent £20k on re-decorating, it shows too. very nice but thankfully not too modern

Mooring Description :
clean/tidy but still annoying to see day boats not using the dyke and taking up spaces that should be used by larger craft

Mmmmmmm not so good...

We visited the malsters last sunday, not all bad but not all good. Very pricey! no VERY pricey and the whole experience was ruined by the general manager (how he refered to himself as) having an argument with 2 members of staff right in the middle of the dining area on a sunday afternoon, totally unproffesional! From what i overheard the general manager was trying to cover his bottom and trying to convince staff of such, but very much sounded like he hadnt done all he should. NOT what anyone wants to hear things / discussions regards staffing and what sounded like very serious issues should be conducted in private NOT a public bar / restaurant.

Lastly for the weekend was The Maltsters at Ranworth. In contrast to the other two this was not a confidence inspiring experience. We were greeted by a young girl (who I would probably have asked for proof of age), having said that she was very polite and informative some older proprietors of other establishments could learn a thing or two about manners from her. As it was Sunday, and the pub food fairy shuts down between 2.30pm and 6.00pm we were in there almost a 6.00pm on the dot. I ordered ham egg and chips while the wife had the cottage pie with vegetables. When I say vegetables there was quarter a head of broccoli and seven strips of carrot around 2” long and 1/8” square. Hidden behind this was the pre prepared cottage pie which consisted of mash on top and some gravy underneath which had been startled by some mince on the way out. This was for the princely sum of £9.00 odd, my ham egg and chips came in at, by comparison £8.00 odd for a few chips two cold fried eggs (preparation timings I suspect are not their strong points) and a sliver of ham. We will not be returning.

Mooring Description :
Lovely moorings if you are lucky enough to find a space. Always worth a try even if it looks busy. We managed to get a spot at 4.30pm.
Food Description :
The food could be a lot better. We both ordered rump steak with pepper sauce. The steak was not very good and the portion of pepper sauce was tiny. Chips were definately of the frozen variety.

Prices are affordable as well both for drinks and for food. Cannot fault this pub.

Mr and Mrs Crazydavefour go for a birthday lunch!!

Pretty little pub in a rather wonder wonderful location, good parking if travelling by car and plenty of little walks and places to explore, it was out of season when we went (Sat3rd March) but we bumped into some other forum members and was pleased to meet them. The new landlord and landlady are still settling in and will make thier own mark in the fullness of time. I have read the previous reveiws and comments under its previous ownership and the new owners and was looking forward to our first ever visit. The Pub was clean and homely and the staff were very willing, out of season and staffing a new business it is very difficult to get the levels just right and although we had a 40 min wait for our food it was understandable as this was down to a sudden influx of diners, some were wearing little yellow stickers, (mmm, forgotten who they were?) easily forgiven and helped down with a pint or two of a very nicely kept wherry. Children are welcome in the restuarant and there are tables outside. The pub also does meals and drinks to take away and eat on your boat! what a great idea when the pubs full!

Mooring Description :
There looked to be plenty of moorings available and the veiws were terrific, I can see this becoming a very busy little spot.
Food Description :
As it was my birthday I chose the house special steak pie and Mrs C had the same, it came with skin on chips, carrots and beans, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and plentiful, the pie was a good size containing plenty of spring onions and mushrooms and a succulent gravy the pastry was not to my taste but this is just a personal preference, little dissapointed at the absence of meat and started to wish I had gone for the 8oz sirloin steak special but the quality and taste of the little I had was superb. Mrs Crazydavefour polished the lot and she had loads of meat in her pie but she would not swop me steak for onions or mushrooms. Even though it was my birthday We wanted to try the chocolate sweet but our wait meant we had had an extra drinky which had filled the gap. We are really looking forward to visiting the Maltsers again soon and would reccomend it to anyone who likes good quality value for money food Wish Penny and Tony the best of luck in thier new venture

Worth a visit just for the bangers 'n' mash.

First visited in June '06 after huge struggle to moor. It took two of us on each stern rope to pull Fair Encounter in due the the wind from the shore. Entered the Maltsters just under the lamp shown above, ordered two drinks for me and the missus and 'do you have a child's fruit drink, please?' Promptly went off to sit under the right-hand window with my four-year old, while her mother went off to lose a few quid on the machines. Half an hour of perfect behaviour from the little 'un saw the barmaid that served me wander over and say 'I didn't know you had a child with you, can you move?' Full of moaning old gits typically. Ate our (very nice) meals and left.

Lovely pub with something for everyone. My first time even attempting to get in here in 10 visits, and we did have to 'hover' for 15 mins before shoe-horning ourselves into a space in the dyke. A true test of reverse steering!

Mooring Description :
We were exceptionally lucky on two ocassions, but it's tight and some people need tuition in how to moor when towing a dinghy.
