Definitely, it's a dump... Knock it down... replace it, but not necessarily with another pub!

Replace with two story building.
Ground floor would be "retail outlets" - or maybe holiday accom.
Upper floor would house restaurant and "pub" with deck area overlooking the bridge.

Failing that.... just tart it up. It wouldn't be hard to improve.

In essence, maybe the problem is that this place is not ‘Broadsish’. The whole ambience is more working mans’ club than country gastropub, with the one big dark room, dancefloor etc.

Having spent a happy hour or so last week sat outside it, doing the crossword whilst quaffing a cold one (or two) in the sunshine, I don’t have any real problem with it under those circumstances (I was sat facing the river and not the carbuncle).

However, I have not attempted to eat there and would not like to sit inside. Shame cos its got a lovely location.

I agree with Pizzalover... tart it up, would be awful if the fabric of the building was not in keeping with Lathams.

PS.. A tad off topic but can anyone remind me what beer I was drinking in the Berney Arms last week? Two real ale pumps in there.

Not sure if its old age, alcoholic blackout, or being distracted by the eastern-european barstaff.

Keep it as a pub.

Spend a little money on it and make it a little more welcoming inside.Do up the Loos.

Beer (Adnams)is always good so it wouldnt need too much to make it into a decent real ale house but still make it welcoming for the trade it already has.(Keep the John Smiths  as a premium beer)

Do cheap and cheerful meals in the resturant (we have enough gastropubs on the broads already) Target the  the hungry folk who do not want to spend a fortune on chicken and chips.

Get in the usual suspects to do the entertainment in Broadland (Tosh JC etc) remember this place is getting its trade from the folk who have a caravan on the local site and the people who hire the cottages up and down the river as well as boaters.

The outside sells itself with its views over the bridge.

With all its faults this place (proper pub) still beats the pants off the god awful other pub in Potter with its cliquey pseudo upmarket clientele. Frown

Harry,

One of them would have been Humpty Dumpty from Reedham.

I am not surprised you had a memory black out after drinking some of them.

But did you have a hangover the next morning?

Cheers
