£9 for over night moorings, you do get £2 back off food in pub.Have spoken to several people lately all say  the same, expensive moorings, food in pub complete pants and the quay covered in geese poo! Yard manager wasn't bothered when they complained, got told to go somewhere else if they didn't like it!!!! Sure fire way to bring the punters flocking back in...........

There was a thread before about the Waveney centre, after easter I thought, but couldn't find it.

There's not a lot you can do about bird do-do, and a goose taking a dump over your boat in flight does leave one hell of a skid mark (sorry "ring aboud the collar"), so I don't think you can expect docks to be that clean or non-slip.

Their pricing does seem high, but you do have a choice to vote with your wallet. I've stopped there for supplies many a time and I don't recall being asked for a mooring fee while I was shopping, or getting water, and if the fees are being used to turn the place around then I don't have a problem. On the other hand when I've been asked to fork out a fiver to moor on a farmers bank, I've declined and moved on.

It would be interesting to hear from the owners as they're members and put up a good description in the guide.

There's a long thread on another site about this so perhaps not much point in repeating everything here. I have had mixed reports although latest ones seem to indicate that the food has improved. The owners are investing heavily and making changes. As we all know that does tend to upset some people Playful .

It's early days under the new ownership and they are attempting to invest in a neglected area of the Broads so credit where credit is due. With the future of the yards at St Olaves at risk because of the flood prevention works this facilty might well be the answer to a maiden's prayers if you get into a spot of bother now they have a boat lift and so on.

I could have sworn the book said turn right at the yellow marker at Yarmouth. I think that was coming the other way! Bill...

Captinpugwash. My husband and I took over The Waveney Inn as tenants on 18th March this year and we are very concerned that you say you have heard from people recently that the food at the pub is "complete pants". We have certainly not been made aware of such strong comments from any of our customers. Did these people make a complaint at the time of their visit? We have had hundreds of good comments about the food and the one or two complaints that we have had have been dealt with immediately and we believe that the customers concerned went away happy. We are not opposed to constructive critisism and do not claim to be perfect but we do need to know about any problem in order to solve it. Please speak to us if there is any problem with your food and give us the chance to put it right rather than go away unhappy. Smile

Firstly welcome to the site Tracy, I am sure everyone here appreciates having your comments first hand so thank you for taking the time to post.

I have not visited WRC since the enhancements were made but have followed the thread on an alternative site which Bill M referred to earlier. It is certainly true that any change will upset some people, as will the introduction of mooring fees. I would not pay the level quoted to moor there overnight, preferring instead Oulton Broad or Beccles Yacht Stations but that is my personal choice and not any kind of criticism. I would only comment that high mooring fees may keep valuable customers away from your establishment. If I am wrong and your moorings are full every evening then I am more than happy for you.

As an old Oulton boy I will certainly be passing in October and look forward to seeing what you have done. If it looks inviting I may well drop in for lunch, if it doesn't of course then I won't.

Whichever, thank you for taking the time to post and best of luck with your venture.

Hi all
today i phoned Mr James KNIGHT up and with a bit of luck he will post tonight
i have asked him to put his side forward.
after talking to him i think i may have been a bit hasty on my comments.
i did not realise the huge sums of mony involved.
thats why its nice to have yard owners on site.
i will go back in the doghouse. Evil Grin
Cheers

Welcome Tracey, good luck with your new venture. I always think it takes at least a season to get established and stamp your mark. If you hunt around this site you will probably find out what quite a lot of peoples' usuals are Wink .

It must be a bit difficult because I'm sure you would secretly love to have free moorings on your doorstep to attract everyone in but on the otherhand I can see that James has got to recope his outlay somehow. I hope that things work out for all of you. I have a soft spot for the place as I spent my first night ever under sail there many many years ago.

I could have sworn the book said turn right at the yellow marker at Yarmouth. I think that was coming the other way! Bill...

Thankyou for your warm welcome and good wishes. It is no secret that I would love to have free moorings outside my pub as, indeed, I would love to get free beer from my brewer Playful Wink , but I guess we all have our businesses to run and can't do it on fresh air!!! I can't control the mooring fees and wouldn't dream of commenting on them (James is my landlord after all!)
My point is about the pub because that is my business and I just wanted to assure everyone that we are interested in feedback from customers and strive to ensure that all visitors to The Waveney Inn enjoy the experience.

i have always stopped there ,prior to a nice early morning run into beccles, though the mooring fees have gone up(incidently if memory serves ,you can re coup on swimming also)
you can always vote with your feet, but the one thing i would object to IF i questioned it with the manager?was to be told if you don't like it go somewhere else, talk about confrontational, i am aware that us customers can be a pain in the arse, but heh be professional explain about wages, upkeep etc.
be friendly, that way they will come back.
tracy welcome, hope you still got the grolsch, don't for get be friendly, especially to me in a nice reduction on aforesaid drinkee, see you in august

completely agree with what you said, and your attitude towards grumpy customers,no use complaining once you have left.i was only repeating what two 'boaters' told me the last couple off weeks.haven't personally had food there but came down to work on boat in yard and have to admit quay was certainly not welcoming.I understand that you have no control over mooring charges but would suggest lowering them to landlord,he can only say no! At the time there was only three boats in not what you would call busy.Best of luck for the future, hope you have a busy season.
