Trevor & Sheila are still at the XK, Dilham. They intend to leave as soon as a new tenant is found or January at the latest.

It's my local and it will be a sad loss; the beer quality here is second to none and with an improved menu, these two have changed the place for the better. At least they're locals so may be able to advise the new tenants on beer quality!

Been crook over Crimble but went into XK last night: still no news from Punch about the future of the pub.

Last night's Adnams Bitter (a new barrel put on at 22.15) was just about the best I've ever had, which makes the impending closure all the more galling.

Trevor & Sheila leave 26th Jan or shortly thereafter so get yourselves over there soon for a farewell pint.

A sad night, tonight.

Trevor and Sheila's last night: they leave tomorrow having transformed the viability of the pub whilst retaining its atmosphere.

Punch Taverns may put in a manager but are playing their cards close to their chest.

My guess is that it's already sold to a developer but I hope I am wrong - Punch say they'll put a manager in.  That's as bad as selling because it will kill the place.

For now, find me in Smallburgh Crown Friday nights as well as Sunday lunchtimes - and you'll probably find T&S there, too!

Many thanks, guys, for doing a great job.

Hi Richard

Fully understand your feelings, especially as it was your "local". Its really sad when hard working folks have to give up because of the dreadful greed of companies such as Punch/Spirit etc. We felt soooo bad for Penny & Tony at The Maltsters when they had to make the decision to walk away. Twas a sad night there too.

It is happening in many places. A pretty and historical pub that we know in a village near Tenbury had closed its doors before Christmas and we were really shocked to see that. It was always popular, including for wedding parties and is in beautiful countryside. It was still closed up and looking sad and empty last weekend. Don't know who it belongs to, but what a dreadful shame, for the community and those whose livelihood depended on it.

Latest news: Punch have put a manageress in the Cross Keys and it reopened on Monday.

Beer quality has fallen dramatically and there's no food but its early days.

We remain hopeful of a new tenant (preferably young tenants).

Good news to hear that is open again, and within a very short time. I think that the longer a pub lies empty and sad, the less chance there is for it to be picked up again. Certainly seems that way, but then I suppose The Ship was empty for quite a few months (the season, mostly) so there is hope...

I'm always happy to report good news!

The beer I had on second night under management was probably not representative for whatever reason. I have since been in last Friday (emrgency delivery of fresh ale during the week) and last night. Suffice it to say that the beer quality is, again, first class.

I'm sure Trevor is taking a keen interest but compliments must go to manageress Cathryn for getting on top of the situation so quickly. She tells me that food should be back on the menu very soon, too.

If we had to suffer a management situation, we could have done far worse.

The "XK" remains worth a visit.
