I have to agree with Richard. Bulldozing is too good for that dump. Who in God's name gave permission to build it on the riverside adjacent to a medieval bridge? However I have mixed views on the rest. It brings back my fascination with the homes of railway carriages along the South Coast of my childhood now five decades and more in the past. I still photogragh them, if I come across one of the few that remain when down in Sussex. No on balance I think "Shack City" deserves a place in Broads history.
Captain Howe. The Eagle may soar majestic, but you don't suck a Stoat into your jet engines. Please leave the water and banks as you would wish to find them.

Well RichardB, Potter Heigham may not live up to your fancy view of the Broads (or that of J Wentworth Day), but it provides a lot of pleasure to a lot of people. I enjoy that stretch of the river as much as the wild beauty upstream or the prettiness of the upper Bure. The bungalows provide excellent holidays, as the feedback and repeat bookings for Fishers Haven and other bungalows show. They have been in existance for many years, Fishers Haven is recognisable in a photograph from the 1930s and was there although unrecognisable in the 1920s. They are (mostly) constantly being improved by the owners and there is an excellent community spirit there. As for Lathams, it may not be pretty but it brings employment to the area and certainly pleases people, even to providing a shopping place for the elderly on tour buses. We love the Broads

We moored between the bridges to watch the 3 Rivers Race and were told by locals that The Broadshaven will open again in mid July. It was so much improved last year and such a shame it closed again especially as it was not for business reasons. Rumour has it the licensee ran off with one of his staff!

Who is this Rumour bloke? He seems to know everything!
Regards, Ray. I'm feeling my age. Anyone got a DeLorean, a flux capacitor, and a tin of plutonium?

The Broads Haven was built when that grassy area between it and the river was a line of Tin and wood boat sheds, and so was entirely in keeping with the buildings of the area. Are we wanting to see the Norfolk broads or a Chocolate box?

Not chocolate box, ordinary would do just fine. Dire simply does not cut the mustard. If they could drag the Falgate to the site of the Broadshaven we would all be content. The Falgate being a decent building but nothing out of the ordinary. However good the landlord / lady the building comes from an era when architects lost all sense and is simply uninviting.

Looking through a 1963 Hoseasons brochure, Broadshaven was offering b&b with 16 bedrooms. Is this the same building or was there an older one on the site. Roy

You're quite right Roy. The Broadshaven used to be a hotel. It is still marked on many a large scale OS map as a hotel.
