Popped by yesterday, grass 18 inches high in the garden, and the place looked like it has just been abandoned. Doesn't look it will be opening again any time soon.

Noticed today that punch taverns are advertising for prospective tenants for this sadly neglected pub. Hopefully someone will apply soon and manage to get it up and running again. There is a prominent notice at the front of the building asking for applicants to run it. Anyone interested ?

Hopefully, no-one will take on the lease.

It's time pubcos realised that their business model is wrong: if no-one takes on the lease it should be sold with licence. Then a buyer could attempt to run it as a free house (it's still going to be a shack) or knock it down and build something a bit more attractive.

Mardler, I don't agree that it looks like a shack, It looks like a typical boat yard shed and with some imagination and a few quid that could become one of it's attractions, the whole site needs "kerb appeal" to lift peoples expectations but there is nothing wrong with the style in the setting that it is in. IMHO of course.

Given its location it ought to thrive.   There must be issues we don't know.

It fails because its 'orrible in there. It is a huge cavernous shed with no atmosphere. Out of season hardly anybody goes there - on the couple of occassions I have popped in on a winters evening (at weekends) there have been no more than a dozen locals present at best.

Much work, they say, was done on it when the last (or last but one) tenants were in but that was no more than a tidy up and a lick of paint so far as I can see. As someone said earlier, it needs much work in order to bring it up to a reasonable standard. My preference is demolition and rebuild but playing to its quirky nature might work also and is perhaps a more viable option.

Like so many other Broadland pubs business is slow during the winter so it survives on it's summer trade! Last season after some redecoration it was much improved. The food was better, the service was very good and the young staff were very polite. Sadly the closure was due to the couple running it having their own personal problems!
It should be sold, as a Free House it could be successful!

Tanner.

Was there yesterday. Punch are still advertising for potential tenants and nothing has been done to it for months.  A man has set up a stall selling oil paintings on the entrance drive .

All  in all those who think it will soon be open must be living on a different planet.

Also for potential visitors the falgate appears to be opening less and less at the moment.

The nearest pub doing food  during the day is now probably the Kings head at  Ludham

I just don't get it.   That pub has "location, location, location" and thus the potential to be a venue that punters would drive a fair distance to eat in at any time of year.   Something must be stopping it.
