Might be worth re-reading the original post. Some people were also arriving by road. This means that a table for more than 14 people would have been booked. Now we have no idea how many people were arriving by road, but I might have been tempted to neglect to mention that fact and just add them to the total for the 7 boats and booked a table for the overall amount.

I have never been asked how many people on the boat at any mooring I have booked in the past.

Just because The BA make a request, don't automatically assume they have the powers to make such requests!! Keeping a careful eye on an Authority which is making it's own rules.

I did note that too Keith,  but the OP gave no other numbers. Perhaps there is more to this story ?

The New Inn always ask when booking a mooring but then as far as I am aware that is the only Pub on the Northern Broads that accepts reservations for moorings free of charge, also booking for a large party would probably be a necessity even when arriving by road unless you are prepared to take pot luck.

I’m sorry but that is a stupid, stupid attitude, what next? Will they only accept boats where everyone commits to a 3 course meal. A boat with 2 people on it could generate more income than a boat with 6 people. The boat with 6 on it may order say just the cheapest main course each and drink 1 drink each and that’s perfectly OK, A boat with 2 people on could order 3 courses each, a couple of sides, an apperitif a bottle of Wine a couple of coffees and a post dinner drink. This establishment has always had these autocratic rules combined with rude staff, I’m surprised it has survived.

Dave

if it is to be it is up to me.

In reply to Mr. Ps comment. We were nearly all couples, mature ones at that.
We moored four boats there last year with even a 35' boat being put in the dyke. This year most boats were smaller.
At the Kings Arms not only did we have a main course and dessert as well and plenty of drink. So the New Inn missed out on a substantial income.

Thank you, waterline. I’m just trying to understand what, on the face of it, seems like a poor business decision. It doesn’t affect my view of the pub, though, as it’s not one of those on my ‘go-to’ list.
