The Berney Arms has now been closed for a few years. There was a fire in the premises a few years back that caused minor damage. It used to be a good pub up until a few years ago and was particularly good when Chris Sheppard ran the place and the moorings along the quay were busy as was the pub. Now that the pub has closed the Berney moorings are quiet and you don't see many boats moored there. The broads National park now have several hundred yards of free 24 hour moorings along the quay going from the Berney Mill downriver towards the old pub.

Oh Dear.

There is no such entity as the Broads national park. It's a non-entity.

The Broads Authority has several hundred yards of free 24 hour moorings, nothing whatsoever to do with the non existant Broads national park, that is quite simply a misleading marketting term. Good place to moor although the dawn chorus from both cows and birds can be a very effective alarm call so not good if you want a lay in.

The issue is unless you are waiting for a tide why stop there?  Without the pub and with (so far as I know) the mill closed, when it was open you had to pre book tours, there is little incentive and I suspect that even more reduced footfall at the Halt must mean that's it's future is in doubt as well.

In the winter you get short eared owls in the fields beside those moorings. This was taken in December 2014.

Great pictures. You are right Bill the mill is now closed it opens just once a year. When we first went to the Berney moorings some 12 years ago the mill was open to the public and was open at the weekends in the summer. The mill now is fenced off to prevent injury from falling brick. The grass around the mill and to the rear is uncut.Since the pub closed the moorings are no longer well used.
