Going to Barnes Brinkcraft tomorrow to view a couple of boats.  I've been reading reviews on Trip Advisor (probably a stupid thing to do) and some of them are horrendous; awful customer service, smelly boats, toilets needing pumping out after a day, running out of diesel in 2 days etc etc.

I think these negative reviews are probably malicious because certain people were expecting 5 star luxury but pay backpackers prices.  Surely somebody on here has first hand information.

philipt740, I am not a fan of Trip Advisor. As you have identified, reviews may be accurate, or they may be malicious. However, similar horror stories from members have surfaced on here, over the years.

We are private owners who moor the other side of the river which also belongs to them. We see and hear things from and about hirers that would make your hair curl, and I'm nearly bald!!
We are here now so we might see you if we knew what you looked like.
Anyway, Matthew and the rest of the staff work their b**ls off to get the boats turned around and some are in a horrendous state. Don't believe all you read or hear. Take them as you find them. Go in with a complaint with all barrels firing and it'll get you no-where, and that's where most of the negative comments come from. Treat them with respect and they'll sort the problem pretty quickly.
With the amount of hire's in a season, there are likely to be things missed on the turnaround and also some faults never get reported expecting the staff to find it which isn't always possible.
Go see them but as it's a turnaround day, you may have to wait to be shown what you want to look at.

Little and large r us.  6'4 with a skinhead; 5'1 with short streaked hair.  We'll be there about 11:30ish.  Give us a wave; we'll have one and only one beer together.  Hope to see you tomorrow  Smile

Hi ...... My son and I hired Brinks Omega the week before Easter and our experience was brilliant all round.

We arrived at 11.00 ish having travelled by train to get to Wroxham and went straight to the office to see Karen as we had been told previously we could leave our bags etc until the boat was ready for handover. Went to Roy's to do a bit of shopping and went back to the yard about an hour later to find the boat ready and waiting for us.

As first time boaters we were delighted with the handover from Warwick who demonstrated the boat after showing us around and answering our many questions.

You couldn't wish for better people and the boat was back spick and span having been turned around by the team as it had just come back from a previous hire a couple of hours earlier.

No complaints from us .... Only praise !!!!

Sorry BuffaloBill the boat we wanted to view was out on Saturday when I rang but it's there now and will be until Tuesday so we will be there Monday lunchtime.  Is your boat the vessel that's always moored opposite the yard; clearly visible on the webcam?

"We see and hear things from and about hirers that would make your hair curl, and I'm nearly bald!!"

We heard that around a week or so ago, A bunch of lads crossed Breydon with a Barnes boat and holed it somewhere, but not sure where they did it, then tied her up at Reedham and caught the train home, leaving it there! It took Barnes 2 days to get it home what with tides etc. and then have to repair it.
I can't confirm that as the boss was busy so thought it best not to ask, but was from a fairly reliable source.

We had to re-arrange dates but now we're all booked for the beginning of October.  Fingers crossed the weather holds out for us both.

Barnes Brinkcraft kindly let us use their dayboats to take the Beaver Scouts out on the water. Last year we needed 8 boats. We are going again soon. They do this for free.
The boats are excellent and everyone at Barnes is friendly and helpful.
If you took trip advisor seriously then you would never do anything. I have unsubscribed from it.
