Pick an outboard manufacturer, Suzuki, Evinrude, Mercury, any it does not matter and check with their UK operation if they are an authorised main dealer.
They might be bringing in "grey" imports that do not carry the manufacturers warranty in the UK. Don't accept a dealer only one.

Their web site is here https://topmarinemotors.co.uk/. The domain name was first registered on 18-Apr-2017, although it is claimed they have been in business since 2005. No geographic contact address, which is illegal for on-line selling. Only a mobile phone number.

The photos of ‘Our Stock’, which appears on that site here https://topmarinemotors.co.uk/content/4-about-us also appears on these web sites:

The OP is from Lincolnshire, as is the OP of the post on ywb, and they are both first posts.

I’ll leave our members to decide whether this is genuine or not.

TT, it's the distance-selling regs that require the address. On-line sellers have to comply with them, plus a few additional ones.

They are also calling themselves www.outboardmarine.co.uk and claiming to be based in Liverpool. Were using a very similar website, just with the company name changed. If you look at their stated list prices for all the engines they "sell" they are around 75% of the true figure. Then they are discounting on top of that.

If you go to the about us page on both you get

Marine Outfitter of Choice

Since our start in 2001, Outboard Marine UK has worked hard to build an excellent reputation as a marine retailer and earn the trust and loyalty of boaters.

for one and this for the other;

Marine Outfitter

Since our start in 2005, Top Marine Motors UK has worked hard to build an excellent reputation as a marine retailer and earn the trust and loyalty of boaters.

The original wording comes from a legitimate website in America... I feel sorry for them.

100% a scam, I spent 20 minutes filling in a totally clunky on-line police scam reporting form a couple of weeks ago about the first one, complete waste of time.

I spent 20 minutes filling in a totally clunky on-line police scam reporting form a couple of weeks ago about the first one, complete waste of time.

(First, I never use the word "Scam"! A 'scam' is when one boy distracts a neighbour whilst another boy is in the back garden scrumping apples. I prefer "FRAUD".)

(Second, there is a very good reason for the Police reporting form to be "totally Clunky" - to deter you from 'bothering' them again! This keeps their 'Reported Crime Figures' low!

The Police use a number of 'devious' stages or 'procedures' in order to defeat even the most persistent member of the public from cajoling them to do some real work. I've experienced most of them - but probably not all of them, yet!

With my business and at home I take internet security very seriously. Over the years, I have had multiple dealings with many Police Officers and many Police Departments, discussing internet based Fraud. I have found them to be totally unreceptive of doing anything to raise public awareness regarding On-Line Fraud. The recent "WannaCry" Ransom Virus would have had hardly any impact in the UK if the Police had previously raised public awareness of the various methods that are used to infect computers. The reasons and excuses they have given me for not making the public aware, are both misleading and laughable - if it wasn't such a serious subject.

If any member of the Police Service is reading this - I CHALLENGE you to PROVE to me that crime reports sent to "Action Fraud" are actually read by a human and acted upon, followed up etc.

I'm quite safe! You cannot prove it because it does not happen. I have actually proved  and this has now been (very reluctantly) confirmed to me by a City of London Police Officer) that all reports sent to "Action Fraud" are just scanned and filed in a computer.

I must differentiate between 'ordinary' Police Officers and our 'Broads and Rivers Police Officers'. I have nothing but praise for our 'Friends in Blue' on the river. They are friendly, pro-active, helpful, fair and sincere, and they go out of their way to make the Broads a pleasant and safer place for us. It's a pity that their colleagues in Fraud, and in Crime Prevention do not have the same attitude to their work.

"Action Fraud" is simply a sweetie for the general public, to make them feel that "something is being done". In many circles, Action Fraud is often referred to as "INaction Fraud. You report a Crime to Action Fraud, It is filed in the Action Fraud Computer,  .  . and,  .  . That's it! Nothing more occurs.

At present, the best we can all do is what has already happened in this Forum - Raise Awareness amongst ourselves here whenever we encounter anything suspicious.
