Not quite the BBC version, but close.

Spent a wonderful long weekend on the boat, getting back home this evening. I just had to share the last 24 hours with you:

Found a very peaceful mooring just downstream from Mud Point on the Ant last night. I was in the bilges of the boat examining the new drip tray recently fitted to the boat (I need to get out more), when my Wife and Daughter call my up to look at something. It turns out to be an Otter swimming across the Ant only 50m away from the boat. Sometime later, while cooking Morrison's best sausage on the BBQ, I nearly get hit by a Kingfisher as it swoops over the reeds before dropping down onto the river again.

To cap it all, I was sat this morning having a slice of toast and a coffee watching a couple of Coots taking food to their newly hatched chick, when down swoops a Marsh Harrier and takes it for breakfast.

I really need to keep the camera at the ready!

BTW, for the first time in ten years, there is water cabbage growing on the upper Ant. It seems the work to reduce the pollution is starting to have an effect.

Finally, as the water is low, there is a strong likelihood that some of you will be heading up towards West Sommerton. A quick word of warning: The river weed is growing really strong. Twice we had our prop entangled and had to use judicial full reverse/full forward throttle to get rid of the stuff.

Sorry for boring you all, but it's been a wonderful few days. What the Broads is all about.

There has for long been a patch of Water Cabbage about 300 yards upstream of the Stalham outfall but great if it is extending, Strap weed on the chet is beginning to cause problems blocking filters as it gets chopped up.

Well you said, "Aim for the green post!" Bill...

Oh dear knackered hot and bothered, and can't find a Hamilton's the outfall from the Stalham sewage plant which is only noteworthy for having one of the first nitrate scrubbers. I guess two thirds of the way down from Wayford towards Hunsett mill
