Someone recently asked about Pool Craft of Beccles and what their flag was. That reminded me of this list of Blakes yards as in 1952. How many are still going strong?

Eight are still going but only one in its original guise which of course is Hunter, but even they are under different ownership.Just Broom and Landamore in their original ownership.

Barry, I don't know, that was why I was asking!
Woods, Sabberton, NBYC, Trumans, Hunters, Windboats, Broom, Richardson, Sanderson and Landamore are all still, I think, trading as yards, in one form or another but no longer all hiring. Apart from Woods, NBYC and Hunters I thought there was still family involvement. But I am sure that someone will know otherwise!!

I certainly remember the demises of Allen, Collins, Darby, Easticks, Hearts, Hefts, Hewitts, Johnsons, Robinsons, Press, Robinsons and Wards. Most if not all had gone by the end of the seventies.

Did`nt the Sabbertons run Sabena marine, or was that a different operation from the original?. They only packed up a couple of years ago, and Darren and the DRL team are running the boats now.

Why raise hell, when you can raise a smile?.

Pete Sabberton is still running the Sabena Marine yard in Hoveton, but he had to start his own business and buy out his dad at some point in the 1960/70's.

You could argue the following are still in existence:
* Loynes are still operating as Faircraft-Loynes
* Press is now part of Barnes-Brinkcraft
* Percivals have started again by Colin Facey as a private mooring
* Broom, no longer hiring
* Hunter still hiring
* Johnson, no longer hiring, brokerage and moorings
* Landamore no longer hiring
* NBYCo still hiring, but at a different location
* Powles is now JPC Marine, no longer hiring
* Richardsons still hiring
* Sabberton now Sabena Marine, no longer hiring
* Sanderson still hiring
* Smith still hiring, mainly dayboats
* Woods still hiring
