Excuse the ignorance but not being a saily type I don't know much about the various yacht events. When is the Yare Navigation Race, where exactly does it take place (apart from the River Yare of course)?

This info would be greatly appreciated as it will enable me to avoid getting anywhere near the event when going to the southern Broads.

Hi Dibbler
Looks like you are in luck as it was 24 September.
Not to be avoided, its a great spectacle especially at Reedham village. Course runs from Coldham Hall to Breydon and back.

Didn't mean avoid it as in 'oh no it's the Yare Navigation'...I merely thought that I would avoid the area as I figured the less powered craft get in the way the better for the competitors.

Thanks for the info though... Smile

Hi
They don't all start at the same time as they nominate a start time depending on how fast their boat is and the times of the tide. They get fairly spread out and its only at Reedham village that you can get a lot of sailing cruisers in one area as they jostle for position as they wait for Reedham Swing bridge to open. Great fun. Good place to see some expert boat handling skills.

Sailing is really easy.

Going from "not sailing" to "sailing" can be hard.

Going from "sailing" to "not sailing" can be hard.

Sailing in a specific direction, or at a specific speed can be hard.

But apart from that, it's easy.

The latter is something that tends not to happen in the River Cruiser Class.  But having said that, two boats managed it in the Yare Nav last year...
