Looking on the webcam the new quay heading at Barnes appears to be protruding about 2 metres further into the river than the old one was! Or does it just look like that on the webcam? If they have pushed it further out, thereby narrowing the river at a busy spot, is it legal???

Seems OK to me. It looks like they've piled immediately in front of the old ones. Here is the plan that was submitted. If you think something isn't right, I suggest you contact BA Planning.

My understanding is the spit of land will be removed and a floating pontoon set behind it with stern on mooring on the river side.
In a nutshell The Moore the merrier.

Thank you, ADI, for that additional picture. Having compared the 'before' with the 'after', I have changed my opinion - see attachment. I have drawn each vertical line from the same fixed point in the distance. The BB camera is obviously fixed, so the perspective is the same for both pics. A copy of the before and after pic has been sent to BA Planning, with a query. Looking at the satellite view on Google maps, it appears they have just brought it forward to the same line as the spit separating the mooring basin from the river.

its a subtle form of land grabbing.many boatyards practice it on river frontages. only a high coourt judge could rule on it. IMHO

Response from the BA: "The principal agreement in reference to quayheading is that it does not encroach into the river any further than the original, unless approved under the relevant planning permission." They are investigating further.
