The last hotel boat was one of the old Kingfisher fleet boat run by a husband and wife in the mid naughties based up at Wayford I think they didn't get enough customers to want to continue and had issues with the useless Lister

I believe that the origin of Hebridean Island Cruises (the preferred holiday  option nowadays for HRH, in the absence of a Royal Yacht) was operating a hotel boat on the canals.

Apparently it started with the idea that everyone would "muck in" together, but it was discovered that guests preferred to be pampered!

Yep that's the one.
They ran to a weekly schedule and you could join where you wanted and stay on board as long as you liked,

Many Thanks Tim

"They ran to a weekly schedule and you could join where you wanted and stay on board as long as you liked,"

We had a night aboard her in 2007 when the chap who ran it had more or less given up the idea of a hotel boat.

He was promoting a sort of part syndicate/part timeshare scheme for the boat (and other boats I think). It was called something like a "keyholder scheme".

At the time we had a syndicate share in a narrowboat and were looking for one on the Broads. The scheme the chap was promoting didn't suit us because of my work commitments plus we thought it was on the expensive side compared with other syndicates.

The next year we bought a share in Moonlight Shadow which we kept for a couple of years and then bought into Lightning when more of the family wanted to holiday with us.

Roy
