Well, sort of ...

Good to see they are taking safety to heart!! This time of year, whatever or wherever, ALWAYS WEAR A LIFEJACKET. A hi vis jacket will not help you!!

Its just so cold and the water temperature probably at its lowest

For a fiver I'll bring my own life jacket. I hope they manage to raise some funds before somebody puts a damper on it H&S wise. Goodluck to them.

I think this is staged, not an actual scheduled trip, if you look closely the picnic bench is empty! Needs a bit of picket fencing rather than post and chain perhaps around the perimeter, with a gate to alight.

A decent size reed lighter would be the right tool for the job.

Joking aside the project is progressing brilliantly and what those volunteers have achieved on a shoestring with some old plant and willing skilled hands is amazing. Possibly the only sailing canal in the uk if not the world. Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be!

Sadly, "crew" are just as likely to fall in and are, probably, even more vulnerable because of their familiarity, or so they think!!

I do hope that the NWDCT review the procedures associated with the operation. Fortunately probably outside the long arm of the BA enforcement but offering trips on boats for payment fraught with issues for anyone...!!

How true marshman, I can remember a gyph boatman who hadn’t come home from work, when a friend went to check the wet shed his lifeless body was in the water, can’t remember the detail of what he was wearing but I think it was concluded that a slip or trip and possibly a bang to the head had probably caused a wife and daughter to lose their dearest.

You’re dead right, in no way would I ever condone skippers and crew not leading by example and ensuring their own as well as passengers safety. Makes me wonder if the vessel in the photo is actually insured for trips, a pl policy may cover their bank side activity for volunteers but a trip boat is a different proposition.
