After two very disappointing days at Sheringham (losing its old-fashioned charm) we pick up Satin and head downstream. Knowing the New Inn to be fully-booked we made for Ranworth: packed out in mid-afternoon. Dropped the mud-plug and waited for a while but nobody even looked like moving, so on to plan C, and just squeezed in for a quiet night at Ludham Bridge.

Sunday: an easy run to Neatishead, plenty of space for a change. To the White Horse to sample the home-brewed (excellent) and book a table for the evening. You'd have a job to beat this place for friendly service, a good choice of ales and excellent food.

Monday: No hope at Stalham Staithe so opt for plan whateveritisnow and Sutton Staithe. Service very good, a couple of respectable ales, but a disappointing meal: unless the potato has been reclassified as a fish the "fish pie" lacked somewhat in the piscine department.

Tuesday: got in at Stalham Staithe, so went to the Swan and sank some Adnams whie Pat tried to buya factory and then got in some supplies for later. Having debated a few options we went for a quiet night at How Hill.

Wednesday: just squeezed in to the last mooring space at Acle Bridge. We can of course only visit this pub a couple of times a year, but when we got in Phil had a pint of Broadside ready and waiting for me! The service here always amazes us. The place was rammed all day but we got a table for the evening and had top-class meals as always here.

Thursday: a repeat performance at Ranworth so we abandoned it again and made it to the New Inn in time to book a table and one of the last moorings for the night. Another place that is always friendly and gives good service and fine food.

Friday: got in at Ranworth! The Maltsters was friendly and the Ghost Ship in good order but the place looked a bit run-down (end-of-season-itis?) so back to the New Inn before reluctantly heading for Royalls' yard.

Amazingly found that Satin was available for the week of Pat's big birthday next May Day,  so that finished the week very happily.
