Hi. We love the Broads and for the past four years have owned a Bourne 35, Autumn Zephyr. She was originally an Ernest Collins boat  - part of the Emblem fleet. We understand that Collins boats used to have a blue diamond emblem on the prow which is long since gone and would love to replace it. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of such an item could you please let us know. We would also be very interested if anyone could come up with some more history on our boat.

Kind Regards,  Andrea

We used Collins Craft for a few years back in the 70s. What was the name of your craft back then (My first guess will be "Golden" ) My parents had Coral several times, and we had Silver and Royal once each. Diamond however, we had several times.

I love the Ernest Collins boats from that era.
My guess would be "Silver" though rather than "Golden". I believe this is one where Mr Funnell added a sliding canopy, as he did with various others during his ownership.

Good luck with the "Emblem" Andrea.

I'm disappointed - I go quiet for a bit and nobody checks the database Mad

She was a Silver Emblem and the sliding canopy was added by Faircraft BEFORE it was Faircraft-Loynes, so I don't know if Mr Funnell owned it at the time - she was sold to Sabena a couple of years later with canopy in place

In 1981 we hired from a boatyard called Trail Marine.  When we arrived at the yard we found that it was a subsidiary of Faircraft that had been set up to operate a batch of boats purchased from Powles.  Our boat was 'Trail Royal 2' an ex Windboats Concorde.  Others that were included were an Ernest Collins then called 'Churchill' and at least one 'Water Gypsy'. I was told (by Mrs Funnell I believe) that they intended selling 'Churchill' on at the end of the season because although a lovely boat the maintenance on the woodwork made it uneconomic.  However at the closure of Trail Marine after just one season I believe, it subsequently transferred to Faircraft's own fleet for another season or two.
Prerhaps someone with a Hoseasons(?) 1981 brochure will be able to add more detail.
PS.  At that time 'Churchill' definitely had a the blue Ernest Collins Shield on the bow and was the reason for my commenting on her to the boatyard.

I've just checked both Hoseasons and blakes catalogues for 1981, no sign of Trail Marine, however, I hadn't noticed before but ALL of Dawncraft's fleet was being run by 'Eagle Cruisers' never heard of them before

Silver Emblem was still in the Blaskes catalogue as Collins at this point
