FreemanBattyBat (Derek?). Thank you for advice and offer to join you at your meet. I expect we'll be up that weekend but our boat is on Southern Rivers and a saily so we never venture further than Reedham.
We're up this weekend and hope to have a lokk at 1 or 2.

Like I said, we have people that just pop in by car over the weekend to the Salhouse meet, so you wouldn't be alone in not having a boat with you !
My Freeman is as far South as you can get at Geldeston, too far by river for me ! But hopefully Tony will oblige and transport her to Wroxham for the weekend. Smile

Good luck with the viewing, my first choice was a 24, but finally got a 23, different boat altogether but suits us. (Sent you PM)

Hi

Our 1st boat was a Freeman 24 with full soft top and Ford petrol engine.

Good points are style and fittings especially interior woodwork which is 1st class.

Downsides for us was tiny washroom, nowhere to stow canopy when lowered, diffficulty finding petrol and carrying cans of the stuff sometimes and nowhere comfortable to sit in the cabin to watch tv or read. The dinette seats are too upright.

Also be aware that with a petrol engine you would need an additional fuel tank to accommodate the usual diesel heating system. The alternative would be gas heating which is more expensive to run and the gas locker will only accept 4.5kg cylinders.

Also have the hull checked for osmosis - ours was a 1984 and was suffering quite badly.

Good Luck!

regards, Yorkie

One other important factor to bear in mind on the 24 is the position of the engine box, it is half in the cockpit and half in the saloon, so if you are looking at a diesel it needs extensive soundproofing because you cant get away from the noise

Looks like it will be a long search. I had a look at one @ Waterside and it was a bit of a project! A day after I left they get another one in much better order. Unfortunately I can't get to view it. Fortunately I never expected a quick search for a good F24 or F26 in original condition.

Would that be Bittern being the better boat than Swallowtail ? It looks ok from photos, the cockpit sides would need work to bring them up.

Yes. Swallowtail was a bit of a project and would have cost a fortune to put something like straight. Bittern looks more original and I was hoping to see it but unfortunately too late.
