I couldn't find the last thread so started a new one to tell you about a brilliant morning cruise today on a Nancy Oldfield boat.
There was a just bit of ice in Lime Kiln Dyke but the first boat out found much more than expected on the broad. They phoned the base and one of the flat bottomed yellow rescue boats was sent out to act as an ice breaker, not as impressive as your Norwegian one, Mercator but did the job. He had great fun breaking up channels for us on the broad and cleared us a route to the river which was ice free. We ran down to How Hill in glorious sunshine and flat calm, lots of dabchicks out that seem unusually relaxed about the boat, a kingfisher posing for his picture in Irstead and couple of moorhens. As the river was so high we had a good view beyond the reeds. By the time we got back at lunchtime most of the ice had melted but we kept the mudweight down as a precaution. This is a wonderful place.

We love the Broads
