Neil, there are carp (some big) in Oulton Broad and in the Waveney at the top end. Like you I think that flooding of other water brought them in, just like the trout in the Chet. Just got to be lucky and hit the right time at the right place.

Carp to over forty pounds out of the Waveney at Burgh St Peters.

No joke, a nearby piker caught one on a deadbait last year at Oulton Broad, middle of winter too. Loud was the indignant howl of 'king nuisance fish'! At 26 pounds it could have provided several deadbait cutlets and fillets Playful Wink  with the left-overs for groundbait!

Jenny Morgan,
A vane, a boat, but not a bird.

The Broads is NOT a National Park.

Carp are resident in virtually all of Norfolk’s Broads and rivers and several are caught throughout the season but they are not there in any great numbers and to actively pursue just Carp would result mostly in blanks I fear.
They are in far greater number just downstream and several miles upstream from New Mills Yard on the Wensum where there are far larger numbers and some real monsters too.
But beware these fish are not like the tame obese one’s that are caught in Carp puddles as these fish are wild, fit and streamlined and fight like stink.

Unfortunately one of the forties (46) off the Waveney was stolen and imprisoned in a carp puddle.

During the summer they sometimes hang around the lee shore margins and are relatively easy to catch by drifting floating crust over to them. Great fun on a 8/10 weight fly rod. Must get myself some cammo bivvy socks so I can look the part!! tounge-in-cheek

My Father in Law caught a small common, approx 5lb from the Yare in Brundall a few years ago while bream fishing. The staff in the long gone Brundall Angling centre told me that there were some big carp in the Brundall area. I have been smashed by unseen fish on more than one occassion in that area over the last 6 years.
