Ladies and Gents,

Following on from the EDP article, which was kindly posted on here.

Some of you will have been aware of The Broads Angling Strategy Group for a number of years and some of you will have been involved in various projects and initiatives that it has been involved in.

Over the past few months the group has undergone a transformation to the Broads Angling Services Group, a community interest company, which will add a level of identity and professionalism that is required to succeed in today’s world.

The official public launch of the Group will be 20th May at a launch event to be held at the Forum Norwich, but prior to that we are seeking opinion from broads anglers so that we ensure that our efforts are focused in the directions that anglers want.

Below is a link to an initial survey, so if you are interested in the Broads as a fishery please take a few minutes and complete the survey.

Thank You

Looks to me to be a group of Anglers who are looking for justification to lobby for Anglers to be charged to fish the Broads, the money raised no doubt will be used to further the interests of this same group.

Personally I would not fill in this survey and I would urge all other Anglers to do the same.

Surveys are usually designed to give the answer the group sponsoring the survey requires as we saw last year with the B.A. survey on Tolls which was used to justify the changes in how Tolls were collected and the reduction in tolls for the hire companies and sailing fraternity and massive increases for certain other groups.

If you are an Angler complete the survey at your own peril.

Dave

if it is to be it is up to me.

Hi Dave

Sorry that you feel like that and a shame you haven't taken the time to look at the history or the group or the people behind it. None of which have any interest or the need to create a vehicle to further their own interests.

In fact the BASG CIC has been legally set up to ensure that no such individual can benefit it this way, so we would be grateful if you could please refrain from voicing such insinuations.

The BASG has existed for 17 years, we are simply taking it to the next level in terms of professionalism. Like it or not this is the reality of modern life, the reason that groups such as the RSPB, NWT and others have been so successful is because of their professionalism, something that angling has been sadly lacking, especially in the Broads area.

Our first task after creating the new identity has been to go out to as many rod license holders as we have been able to reach, and ask them what they want from the broads.

I don't believe that this has ever happened before on this scale. In May the results of this survey will form the basis of a public presentation to ALL the major organisations involved in running the Broads, giving Broads anglers a proper voice for the very first time.

I am saddened that you are so cynical in your views on what we are trying to achieve, thankfully close to 1000 anglers don't feel that way and have chosen to pass on their views.

Best Wishes

Duncan Holmes
Director Broads Angling Strategy Group

So you can say categorically say that you will not in any way be campaigning for Anglers to have to pay to fish the Broads?

Cynical Moi? Realistic mate and I know the history of the group and several of the past members.

In which case if you know the history, you will know that 1000's of unpaid hours have been worked by members of the group, to benefit others. In most cases without a single penny of expenses being paid.

As for the charging of anglers to fish the Broads, the group has a neutral stance on this. We have asked the question to the angling public and it will be interesting to see what the general feeling is.

We will work in the direction that anglers want us to, the direction and strategy that is required to deliver that will be publicly revealed on the 20th of May at the Forum.

At that event, there will be ample platform for all anglers to discuss the future of Broads fishing. I will further that and extend a personal invitation to you to come along and discuss your concerns directly to myself and other members of the board.
