Hi all
Despite repeatedly flushing the tank the water comes out of the taps smelling very unpleasant. The tank is emptied for the winter. I wondered about dropping some sterilising tablets in, or bleach, leaving it then flushing through but clearly need to worry about pollution.
Does anyone have any suggestions for solving the problem?

I use these in the tank as a matter of course after it's been stood. I would guess the smell comes from Bacterialogical source and these should kill it.

On re-filling the tank after winterisation, I pour in a bottle of Aquasol, and make sure it gets through all the taps and pipework. Never had a problem using this method.

Whatever happens now, I'm blaming it on Brexit. Everyone else is!

Hi at the start of the season I always dilute some puriclean and put that in the tank and a fill it up. Leave it for a couple of hours then flush it through. It does take a couple of tanks of flushing through afterwards as it does leave a chlorine type smell but it seems to work as we’ve never had a problem with a smelly tank. All the instructions are on the back of the tub.

If winterizing the real answer (although it's a bit late to say it now  Blush  )is to address the issue of water laying in tanks and pipes in the autumn.Half fill the water tank and add a strong double dose of purifier, flush through each tap in turn (both Hot and Cold) and leave about an eighth of a tank full of the solution.  Do not add any more water.  Having the chemical in solution should avoid much risk of freezing but with all water pumps switched off open the taps so any ice that might form doesn't blow the pipes off the taps.
