I have tried to install the latest updates to windows 10 - version 1607. I can download the update but cannot install it. The install sticks on 99% - has anyone else had the same problem.
Mine did but I disabled my malware checker - Avast! - and the updates installed with no problem. You will need to restart the computer after disabling and maybe reboot in 'safemode' if the problem still exists. It's a big update so be prepared to wait a while.

I have this upgrade on my machines with no problems. However, on my tablet there was not enough memory to install the update. So what I did was to download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and reinstall Windows. This gives you the latest version.
You could also have cut/paste files onto a flash stick. 64GB is a norm these days with up to 256GB available (though I would not want to put my trust in them with important data). Then of course you have 'the cloud' to store data. This would allow you the necessary space on the HD for the updates without the bother of reinstalling the OS.

Thanks for the info Nigel that's a help. It looks like its a common problem from all the postings. I will leave the computer on when it seems stuck at 99% for 4 - 7 hours as they suggest and then try something else to get it to install. I have another computer which is quite new and did not any problems installing update 1607 on that machine. Thanks to Dave HR too. Dave R.........

DaveR - If you do have to reinstall Windows, don't forget to back up everything before you start. A new clean install is nice but you are starting again from scratch.
DaveHR - That method would work on a machine with an HD, but on my tablet it did not because the tablet has just a small SSD. Even deleting everything did not create enough space. I think this is because when you do an update you also have the option to go back, so it uses a large amount of temporary storage. In a clean install, you don't have this option so it uses less memory and works on tablets.
An update- thanks to everyone for their input. I have now downloaded and installed the Windows 10 - version 1607 which is a major upgrade to Windows 10 introduced a year after new operating system was released. Initially the down load and install stalled at 99% and would not go to the finish. I waited for 6 hours for it to finish but it failed to do so. I then attempted the download and install again and this time it worked. It took 2 hours but I finally got the message that 1607 had successfully downloaded and installed. I really don't know what the problem was but finally got there in the end.It seems from info on the web that its a common problem with users with older computers. My main computer which is newer downloaded and installed the update quickly with no problem at all. Hi Woodwose. You should still have USB or SD ports which you can use to store large files e.g. images. There is still the option of iCloud or similar for storage.
