We're looking for a permanent mooring to rent for our 21' motor cruiser on the South/West bank of the River Yare anywhere between Reedham and Norwich (excluding the River Chet) from next April onwards. Does anyone know of any vacancies or any owners that might be approached?

Try Beauchanon  ( if that's how it's spelt) arms. Or Langley Dyke- there is a sign on it telling you who to contact. Rock land Broad, ask in the pub also has a sign on far side of Staithe. Surlingham Ferry pub. Thorpe Island google it. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.  Reedham it's self. St Olaves marina or also called Anglia Yacht Brokers. Assume you want to be on that side of the river.... Beccles?

Don't know any farmers by name although know most by sight and can't think of anyone that would let you moor on their land and it's a bit dangerous wild mooring mooring due to the tides.

Hope that helps.

As an addition to that last one of mine, there is a dyke just before Langley that has moorings, it's usually quite full though. It's called Hardley dyke. Ring the broads authority as they will know all the places that offer moorings.

And it's the Beauchamp Arms. There is also a sailing club there so they may have some available. And the pub called Woods End Tavern ( google it for details) although I think those moorings are for the residents along that stretch.

Hi eddiem,
Many thanks for the info but unfortunately it's the wrong side of the river for us.

Many thanks for all you suggestions and information.

Finding the owners of moorings isn't easy - perhaps someone could compile a register?

So far, we've put our name down on several waiting lists but nothing is definitely available yet.

As time is now marching on and we have to be off our existing mooring by the end of March, we're looking further afield - the whole of the Broads!

We don't need the facilities that marinas provide so what we're looking for is a river bank mooring which may be private, or owned by a business or council , it may even be a homeowner with a river-frontage who doesn't use it and could use a bit of extra income!

As we would be travelling by car, suitable nearby parking is essential.

Any information or suggestions would be very welcome.

Hi there ,
I recommend looking through this mooring section as there are plenty of yards that have been recommended to others that like the same as you ,
Good luck

steve and vicky
( apparently a moaner)

Many house owners of the type you are looking for don't like to advertise the fact that they are letting out a bit of their garden for mooring purposes.

To find them you really do have to visit an area, start at the local yard and then pub and just talk to people . You will be amazed at what the local grapevine can produce.

Waiting lists are almost always worse than useless as it takes so long to move up them that by the time you get to the top the staff dealing with the list have retired and the yard Is operating another list without your name on it.

Have fun

Graham
