I think that the council dredged it when they tidied the place up a few years ago, I seem to remember that before the dredging it was to shallow to moor anything other than a dingy in, I've been told if you use the dyke and tie to the councils bank there is no charge however if you tie to the hotels bank you will be charged
This dyke should only be used for sailing boats as per the parish council notice on the fence so how comes this boat is allowed to stay here plus he was moored up on the other side by the Kings Head for quite some time plus how can this boat add value to the area ??
Mike , HOVETON Parish Council have an agreement with the owner of the mooring rights on the Granary Staithe side of the dyke to allow unpowered boat to moor temporarily. Heather is moored on the opposite side of the dyke by arrangement with the Hotel. The Houseboat was indeed moored across the road by arrangement with the local management of the King's Head, the BA who deny harassing Chris then contacted the group Head Office to request that they override the local management and remove the boat from a mooring that incidentally had been used by residential boats from the 1990's. Even a brief glance at the visitors book or the blog will reveal how visitors to Heather appreciate the opportunity.
For the life of me I do not see why the BA as the local authority cannot ask questions about such things on their patch. Surely that is one of their duties. From the article it seems that they wanted to know if the chap was living on the boat or not. The answer to that question did not seem clear when I read it in the paper. Is he or not?
We saw the houseboat moored near the Kings Head about one month ago and it was certainly creating a lot of interest from passers by including myself!
In all honesty the dyke wwhere it was moored at that time would not be suitable for larger craft an in a way it added to the area rather than detracted from it.

Tim - no doubt you will be able to confirm then that the Heather only occupies HALF the width of the dyke so as no to encroach on the Parish mooring?
Presumably as the Hotel Wroxham now utilise their side, any average size boat will not be able to use the Parish mooring even temporarily, let alone Wherry Yacht Charter who do so to advertise their boats occasionally? Shame that as that charity needs every penny it can collect.
And no, like others, I see the BA as only doing their duty to ensure they are aware of what is going on especially as other river users are going to be affected.
Legally I wonder who actually owns the dyke? Presumably the Parish Council deeds will show that?
