"Curious this.

Seems to be a very good marketing opportunity, something that would benefit the hundreds of businesses and the many thousands of people who rely on tourism for their livelihood.

But you would potentially damage those businesses and those peoples livelihoods by giving that opportunity to another area? Deliberately??

Can you justify that please? It appears to me you have used a sort of logic, but it has led you to a ridiculous conclusion.

Found this on Facebook from someone who makes a living from tourism and is no fan of the Broads Authority (quoted from public forum)

James Knight
"A plea for sanity. We know it’s not a national park. But please please don’t go on about it. Sadly, nobody cares. What we do have is an opportunity to promote the positive aspects of the Broads on a nationally recognised platform. So please. Just forget about whether it’s really a national park, and focus on the good PR that will come to the area if we put some effort into extolling the virtues of the Broads, and the things which make it special. Thank you."

Bill/b]"

Principle Bill, If there was a child wearing a halloween mask in an Easter Bonnet competion I wouldn't vote for it, if there was a red Ford Cortina up for best in Show at the Ferrari owners club annual awards, I wouldn't vote for it, if there was a Heinz 57 up for best Labrador in show at Crufts, guess what? I wouldn't vote for it. So why would I vote for something that is not a National Park in a competion for National Parks?
As for Janes Knight, I guess he has a vested interest.

Apart from the national park/not a national park issue, this competition is utterly without merit.

I have just voted twice and, if I could be bothered, I could sit here for the next few weeks and cast my vote hundreds, if not thousands, of times.

JP could task one of his trusted minions to do exactly that (would have to be a very trusted minion, because if it ever got out, there would be hell to pay). Any of the others on the short list could do the same.

Sorry, but whatever the result, a competition that can be so easily manipulated is totally discredited, IMO.

I'll leave people to make up their own minds - it seems to hinge on fish, families and the technicalities of a bit of a marketing puff competition.

"...it seems to hinge on fish, families and the technicalities of a bit of a marketing puff competition."

We are being told that winning this competition will bestow untold wealth from tourism on the lucky winner, and the businesses therein. When the result of the competition can be so very, very, very easily manipulated, I would hardly describe it as 'marketing puff'. More a cheaters' licence.

No Paladine, you were never told that it would "bestow untold wealth from tourism on the lucky winner" you just made that up.

Here are some facts:

Above TT encourages people to vote AGAINST the Broads.
" You should vote but not for the Broads, vote for somewhere which is actually a National Park."

Karen says:
" I agree with you completely" but then backs down from that later.

The Broads are allowed to use National Park in marketing. This is absolutely marketing.

The Broads are a member of he National Park family under different legislation to all of the other parks - although the Scottish ones also are covered by different legislation - so don't vote for them!

The National Parks lists The Broads as a National Park.

The Broads receives a £3000000 National Park Grant.

There isn't a competition to pick the best fish in the sea.

Bill,

I did not back down!  If you interpret my remarks as such then let me assure you that is not the case .  I simply tried to acknowledge the point that a vote for another park could be seen by some as a vote against the Broads. I wonder, are you properly reading the comments, or putting some spin on them to suit?

I don't think there is an option to vote against .  Simply the option to vote for it or not.  I will be not  be voting because the Broads is not a National Park  and I've always been a bit picky about the finer details of things.

If you vote for another, you vote against. That seems just factual?

You agreed "completely" with TT - he encouraged a vote for another NP. Hence voting against. Again, just factual.

No Bill what I said is vote for something which is actually a National Park, The Broads isn’t and hence should not be eligable, in which case you can’t vote against it.
However I will state now that I have voted and it is a vote against the Broads being called a National Park.
