A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood Alert in force: The tidal River Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water.

Flooding is possible for: The tidal River Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water.

Be prepared.

This message has been issued because of the forecast for high tides at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. High levels in the Broads may last for a few days until the high tides have passed. We are not currently expecting the situation to escalate. High water is due at Great Yarmouth at 07:35 am, on 03/10/2017. The detailed forecast for those that use it is for a peak level of 1.54mAODN, which is 0.67m above tide tables. The wind forecast is Force 6, West North Westerly (mAODN means height above average sea level, for more info refer to local tide tables). Levels can take several hours to peak in the Broads in response to incoming tidal waters. Remain vigilant. We are closely monitoring the situation. High Water is expected at Burgh Castle at 8:15am and Beccles Quay at 11:15am.

To check the latest information for your area
-------------------------------------------------------

* Visit the GOV.UK website to see the current flood warnings, view river and sea levels or check the 5-day flood risk forecast: https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/target-area/054WATBT3

* Or call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 using quickdial code: 213340 .

* Tune into weather, news and travel bulletins on local television and radio.

What you should consider doing now
---------------------------------------------

* Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.

* Keep your staff and customers informed about the situation.

* Get ready to act on your business flood plan if you have one.

* Move cars or other vehicles to higher ground, if it is safe to do so.

* Check that you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies.

* In rural locations, farmers should consider moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.

* Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.

* Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you've been in contact with it.
