This is not the Broads, but those with of a love of rag and stick might find this interesting, particularly those with a string fetish. A couple of weeks ago I had the good fortune to be on board the 1895 Thames Barge "Thistle" during the process of dropping the mast. To say it's more complicated than a Broads yacht is an understatement. And that's without the job of lowering the topmast, which we'd done earlier in the day. First up, here's the winch and winch man.

All done. Next we took the mainsail off for repair and re-dressing. A few days later the mast was back up with a rather well cared for mainsail on it.
