Staying with my brother and his family over Christmas, I went out for a walk before lunch. This led to discovering the upper end of the Blyth Navigation, from Southwold to Halesworth. This was previously unknown to me and was all the more intrigueing to know that wherries once plied their trade along this navigation.
An online search for more background has revealed little that tells any more than the Wikipedia article,, so some interesting questions remain:
Were the wherries brods ones repurposed, or were they built specifically for the navigation?
If specific, what kind of design differences were there?
Were they built by the same builders or built locally?
It would be interesting to know more if anyone has sources.
