I would like to ask JP why Wroxham Broad, Moorings and Staithe users do not have to pay River Tolls?

As this is is the same as other moorings and broads why do these not have to pay the same as other users of "adjacent waters".
Or it it just that all the Private Mooring Yard boaters are  getting ripped off by the BA ?

Evening,

Powered boats and larger sailing craft on Wroxham Broad do have to pay a toll so I would ask that you report to us any boats fitting into these categories which aren’t tolled. However in the Broad, as with all other adjacent waters, small unpowered vessels (having a block area of less than 6 m2) which do not enter the navigation area do not have to be registered or pay a toll, and medium sized unpowered vessels (having a block area of less than 13 m2) do not have to pay a toll.

The background to this is that Wroxham Broad is not one of the stretches of the river Bure in use for navigation by virtue of any public right of navigation at the time of the passing of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Act 1988. Therefore it is not part of the navigation area and boats using the Broad were not, prior to the passing of the Broads Authority Act 2009 subject to the payment of a toll. One of the important features of the 2009 Act was the designation of areas as adjacent waters where 3rd party insurance, a boat safety certificate and the payment of a toll is required except for the smaller boats described above.

Regards

John

With the non requirement of supplying and showing toll plates now will the BA now provide a web link to ALL registered boat on the Broads so any one can check on suspected non-tolled boats to allow anyone to "   report to us any boats fitting into these categories which aren’t tolled   "

Any one in previous years could just view the toll plates as boats come past to see if they were tolled.  Not now.

Even the Rangers have to call into Control and ask the question " Toll check please on reg number - boat name etc.

If your staff can not find out if a boat is tolled how can you expect the general boater to know?

Good Morning,

Toll Plaques had a number of problems with them. One of which was that we had many reports from boat owners about boats which were not display a current plaque. In practice when we checked almost all of the boats so notified had paid a toll and for a number of reasons were not displaying it.

We now have an on-line system for boat owners to check whether a boat has a valid toll and you can find this at:
http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/owning-a-boat/tolls/annual-toll/annual-toll-check

The Rangers do not need to contact Broads Control to verify whether a boat has paid. They have on board a laptop with the relevant data.

We are looking to make further improvements this year with the ability to check via an application on their mobile phones.

Regards

John
